How seriously do you treat goal setting?
Most days, when I’m not in the gym, I’m working my way through a todo list of some sort that I’ve either written the night before, in the morning or a week ago…damn my procrastinating mentality!
It might look a little something like this:
Train clients
Workout
Answer emails
Eat five meals
Be awesome
I know what you’re gonna say: “But, Ross, surely the last one goes without saying?!” And, you’re right; but sometimes I have my off-days and I, too, need reminded.
Anyway, those are my day-to-day goals. I also set longer term goals for the months ahead and even the year ahead.
For example, I’ve just filled a white-board with my goals for the rest of December, January and February; and for 2014 as a whole.
Now, of course, they’ll be edited as I go as I’ll no doubt achieve them all before the time limit I’ve set myself (because achieving is what I do…well, since I left school).
My point is that you should treat your goal setting seriously.
Whether you’re looking to drop two dress sizes, gain 10kg of lean muscle or compete in your first belly dancing competition, you should be setting goals on a daily, weekly, monthly and even yearly basis to ensure you’re working towards your end goal.
Regardless of your physical goal, you should be looking to get a good night’s sleep, exercise – even if it’s just some mobility work and eat well, on a daily basis.
On a monthly basis, perhaps you should be looking to increase the intensity of your training; by increasing your poundage in the gym or increasing the frequency of your training, for example.
And, on the yearly, you should be looking to make huge changes to your physique or performance.
The goals I’ve just chalked up are all business and lifestyle related so they’re not really relevant for air on here…although, you best believe I’ve got some cool stuff in the pipeline that is going to benefit y’all to the nth degree (gotta be honest, I don’t even know what that means, but I know I’m using it in the correct context so I’m cool with it).
But, what is relevant for air is that I drew; in massive font at the bottom of the board:
DO EPIC SHIT!!!
And that’s exactly what I want every single one of you to do over the coming months and years.
Set goals, regularly, achieve them and don’t let anything get in your way on your road to epicness.
A’iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight?!
